Music Therapy at Cherrywood Pointe

Music Therapy at Cherrywood Pointe

Music is a fabric that is woven through our lives. We use music to celebrate, to mourn, to process, to relax, to escape, to enjoy – we use it for anything and everything! It resonates with just about everyone.

Residents at Cherrywood Pointe communities benefit from weekly visits from the Cherrywood Pointe Music Therapists. Music therapy allows residents to express themselves and interact with their surroundings in a non-invasive and safe way while working towards goals that ultimately aim to increase quality of life.

Music therapy promotes wellness, helps to reduce anxiety, and is especially effective in working with people with dementia. It includes a variety of methods including singing, playing, creating, improvising, and moving to music. Our music therapists will weave music into other exercises, like music and relaxation using guided imagery, music trivia, and music history presentations. Music therapy helps to assist residents with cognitive, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.

Our music therapists work with our care team, with residents and their families to identify goals for care and quality of life, and then work collaboratively with the team to achieve those goals in either group or individual settings.
